Amit Dutt

Amit Dutt paints in New Delhi.

Born in 1966, he trained in applied arts at the Shilpa Bharti Institute of Fine Arts and Crafts in New Delhi, and has worked for four decades since.

The figures recur across everything he touches — pale, still, many-handed. They appear on canvas and on paper, and then on the things people keep and stop noticing: porcelain plates, gramophone records, a harmonium, a tabla, the horn of a gramophone. An object that once made sound becomes a surface that holds an image.

His solo exhibitions have been titled Dhyanastha, Inner Journey, Tranquility and Art Sutra — a line of work returning, each time, to stillness.
